Yesterday morning we wrapped up the final class of Group Flow, my latest training on growing your business with fitness cohorts. A few of the students have been facing the same problem: The have many amazing ideas for fitness cohorts, but they're having trouble choosing which one to create first. As we know, simply choosing to do everything at once is a mistake. It almost always ends with incomplete and subpar projects. It's like going to a restaurant, ordering every single dish on the menu, trying to eat them all at once and then picking a favourite. As you can imagine, it gets messy. So if you want to make sure you're putting your best foot forward every time, you need to pick one to get started? But how do you do that when every idea feel fresh, interesting, exciting and like it's the 'right one'. Well, I have a little trick that works every time and I'm going to share it in today's Friday Finisher (or watch a video walkthrough I made). How To Choose The Best IdeasReading time: 3 minutes | Topic: Fitness Business The Problem: Too Many IdeasIdeas are cheap. Just now I had an idea for a Uber-like service where you ride on hippos instead of cars. (Hey, I didn't say it was a good idea.) The point is that it's easy to come up with ideas but we only have a finite amount of time and energy to bring them to life. The good news is, that if we do pick the 'wrong' idea, at least we'll know after we've tried to create it. At the very, very least we'll have learned something which will help us with our next idea. So I want you to grab your list from the warm up and let's work out which idea is the next one you'll tackle. Focus On EliminationLet's say this is my list of things I want to create in 2025, but I can't choose which one to do first. I'm already getting FOMO about the thought of not doing some of these:
Ok, now what I want you to do is cross one item off your list. Whichever seems the least exciting, least important or least doable with your current skills. You choose the reason why, but just pick one to cross out.
Okay, so I picked 3 because I don't really know much about passive income and realised that I should probably focus on things like improving my class attendance first. Now I'm going to pick another.
I picked the small group classes because I don't really have the equipment or space for that. The reason doesn't matter too much, the main thing is that you just cross one thing out. Now, I'll repeat the process again and again and again until there is just one item not crossed out. Yes, this will get harder as you get down to the last few items. Keep going!
So, as you can see at the end of it all I realised that finding a trainer to take over some of my classes was the most important thing that I need to focus on now. If you've been working in the fitness industry for a while, you've probably had a few different jobs in that time. In my youth I worked the reception desk at a gym where I would plan workouts and my my future bootcamp on paper between people checking in. I find there is always a natural life cycle to these things. Think of all the fitness fads that soar to unbelievable popularity only to take a back seat to the next big thing. And so it might be that you find yourself right now at the end of...
"30 clients paying you $300 per month equals $108,000 per year" It's easy to make a living as a fitness coach right? Er, right...? Those numbers above are referring to online coaching, but it's a pretty similar formular for group fitness too, isn't it: 50 bootcamp clients paying you $200 per month is $120,000 per year. So if it's so easy, why are so many fitness coaches still struggling to make any money? Because, whether you do online coaching, bootcamps, semi-private or something else, the...
Hey Reader, Today I'm grateful for... pushy sales people and lock-in gym contracts. While I wouldn't normally say I'm a fan of either, with Thanksgiving coming up I've been thinking about what I'm grateful for and the moment that involved those 2 things is definitely up there. Today I want to share with you how 2 things that we normally shy away from in the fitness industry (sales and lock-in contracts) changed the trajectory of my life forever. (I've also got a Thanksgiving-themed workout...
