Today is my birthday. I'm officially old.

Today is my birthday.

I'm turning 37.

That feels very strange to write.

As I sit here typing and feeling super old, it's got me thinking about 'ageing up' and how in the fitness industry we're in a unique position to become better trainers and coaches as we get old.

In fact, I would go so far to say that your age is your super-power in this industry.

Here's why in today's Friday Finisher:

Turns Out Getting Old Is A Good Thing

Reading time: 3 minutes | Topic: Mindset

The Warm Up

What life experiences can you bring into your coaching to make it unique?

How can you speak with empathy to those who've gone through similar fitness or health struggles to you?

The Main Drill

Now first off, I know that those of you who are older than me will be shaking their heads laughing at the idea of me calling myself old at 37.

(I'm not sure what those of you younger than me a are thinking... probably just nodding your head agreeing that I am indeed ancient.)

But actually that makes a great example of my point.

At 50 you might remember what it was like to be 37. At 25 you have no idea what being 37 is like.

For example: I might assume that at 50 you're dealing with different things to me. Maybe the kids have started moving out. Maybe you've been learning everything you can about menopause the last 5 years. Maybe you're... I don't know, this is the point, I'm not 50 so you tell me.

But I do know that at 50 you're in a great position to help others in their 40s and early-50s.

At 37 I'm looking down the barrel of 40. This is mid-life crisis territory people.

It's a time when people start questioning what success looks like to them. And whether what they've been striving for things that are actually important to them.

Who better to help them then someone who's slightly older who's already navigated this?

Someone who can share the practices and habits that tick along in the background even when your business is busy, your youngest is keeping you awake all night with a cough that just won't go away, an older child that has taken to drawing on anything that sits still for 60 seconds and let's not forger that you've got 4 other families coming over this Saturday for lunch.

Don't shy away from your age, embrace it and embrace all of the experiential wisdom that comes with it that makes you a damn good trainer and coach.

The Finisher

If there is one area of fitness (or keeping fit despite a crazy life) that you've picked up a lot of experience in over the years, today I want you to think about how you can use that to help others.

It might be by creating a special group just for people who are dealing with those issues stay fit and healthy. Or begin their fitness journey.

I like to call these types of groups fitness cohorts.

What would the group look like? How often would you meet? For how many weeks? What makes the group unique.

Start by answering those questions.

And if you want some help creating your group from me, it's not too late to join Group Flow.

The recordings from week 1 are now up and you'll get instant access to them when you sign up. You'll also get full access to our live classes and recordings next week (plus all the slides, audio version and bonuses).

What does it mean if no one shows up to your birthday party?

Issue #9 29 March, 2026 Update from Kyle ↓ Dear Reader, This is going to be a fairly long email so here is the TLDR: I’m taking a break from updating Bootcamp Ideas for 30 days. That includes new articles, newsletters, courses and podcasts. BootCraft will be running as normal with weekly updates. I’m doing this to make space for a couple of experiments. Okay, so if you’re wanting to know the reasoning behind this, join me and read on! Group Flow Flop I had been planning to write this exact...

Hey Reader, Today I want to share with you the story of when I nearly lost everything. It was difficult to write this, but I hope it helps a few of you who need to read it. It was the end of 2016, life was great. I was 'crushing it'. After spending some time in the US working solely on Bootcamp Ideas, I was back in Australia being busy. You know, when some asks you 'How are you?' and you say after a short pause 'Busy'. I was running my old bootcamp 7+ sessions per week, growing BootCraft...
